Mobile Art Monday No. 47

I have two Stackables formulas for you today. The first I call Pods since I used it on my poppy pods.

Original (tweaked in Snapseed)

A grunge filter added in Snapseed. I love how it made the stems blend out toward the edge.

In Image Blender I added one of my own textures.

Then into Stackables for the finale.

I also used it on my freshly emerging yellow coneflower daisies.

Original tweaked in Snapseed.

The second I call Antique. It's wonderful on still life shots. This is my original edited shot that I save the formula for.

It also worked great on my coneflowers.  (This was a formula in the app that I made adjustments to.)

And a landscape shot I thought worked good with it.

You can download the formulas for Pods here and Antique here.
 Save them to your Dropbox.
Now on your device, open Dropbox and click the file. Use the 'Open in' option and choose Stackables. It will ask if you want to import the formula, tap 'Import'.
You will find it under the 'formula' icon with the heart. Click the formula of choice on the right  to apply it. You can make further adjustments by clicking on the wrench icon on the lower right to make each layer editable.
Hope you had a great Mobile Art Monday yesterday and didn't have any firework mishaps.

Mobile Edit Favorites of 2014 -1

It's App Happy Wednesday over at Keeping With The Times and I'm Barb's guest host today! So come over and check out what everyone's been doing with their mobile editing.
My goal for this month is to keep it simple but get some work done in the process. I like to sort through my mobile edits at the end of the year since they don't seem to get much attention after loading into Lightroom (such as key wording, flagging etc.) So this month will be scattered with some of my favorite edits of the year.
I have big plans for doing more tutorials next year and I'm excited about that.
Here are my top 5 from earlier this year. All are very different in style.
Fragment

DistressedFx, Snapseed

Picfx, iColorama, Decosketch, Snapseed

Mextures, Pixelinout, Image Blender

Pixelinout, Fragment, Rhonna Designs
Come check out App Happy Wednesday, the first Wednesday of each month.

Instagram Pics

Two posts in one day!
I'm trying out embedding my Instagram photo to my blog. This one is done with Waterlogue (geez, I spelled it wrong on the pic, didn't think it looked right), iColorama and ImageBlender. Below is the 'sequence' of events.
I have learned however if I am going to link to another blog, like Barb's, this doesn't give a photo preview to choose from when 'embedding'.

App Happy 5-14

It's App Happy Wednesday over at Barb's. Come over and check out what everyone's doing on their mobile edits.
A little tour of my Instagram feed the past few days.
I made 2 versions of this in DistressedFx then used a soft light blend mode in Image Blender to achieve this.

If memory serves me right, this was done using Vintique. Although I may have used PicGrunger too.

You'll just have to get used to the all the peony photos this week. Two Snapseed edits of this close up.

Speaking of Snapseed….I couldn't resist this old church done in black and white. My friend just got a best of show with a shot of this church that she HDR-ed. I haven't seen it yet… It's at the Garden and Art Center in the West Texas Photographic Society Show. My track record has been great this past year but I didn't place at all in this one. I got a few oohs and aahs as I turned in my photos and that's enough to spur me on.

And more Snapseed….. There is a 'gasoline' museum halfway between Taos and Santa Fe but it was closed on Sunday when we made the trek. That didn't keep me from getting out and snapping a few.

And what would Mother's Day be without a card with a watercolored peony on it? Waterlogue and Rhonna Designs.

Feels Like Spring

Shall we deviate from the passion of red a moment to drool over some pastels? I say, Yes!
My Valentines bouquet from the 'man'. Shot with iPhone, edited first in PhotoToaster. I forget how awesome this app is.
I stopped there for 2 days then remembered it as I was trying to decide what other photos could I do with Waterlogue?
I even played around in Repix but was disappointed. Not that good for pastels.

So I did my usual thing, black and white edges in iColorama and took them both into Image blender to get this. Love it. I'll print and hang on the wall.

Before the iColorama 'lines', in other words just Waterlogue.

Painterly Edits 1 -Introducing Waterlogue

Version 1 (All edits done on iPad)
This is the original photo. (Gosh I was even too lazy to crop this… in the end it didn't matter.)
This is my first edit in Waterlogue, setting - Normal.
My favorite watercolor painted look is with line drawing added. You can nearly achieve this look with the Industrial setting. It didn't have much 'wet' action on the paint though.
This is the way I typically do my watercolor line drawing edits. I'll take the original into iColorama and choose Style>Edges, and pick one of the presets to get a black and white drawing with the size lines and amount of lines I want and save it.
Then I'll open up both edited photos in Image Blender. The painted version on the bottom. (Second photo above.) The line drawing on the top. Change the blending mode to Multiply so the white will disappear leaving only the lines. By default it sets the opacity at 50%. So you may need to increase it. If you want to mask out some of the lines, that is possible here too. I masked out some of the edges.

Version 2
I took the original (first photo above) back into iColorama and found this great color under Style>Sketch>2. So I just had to try it in Waterlogue.
I used the Industrial setting to achieve this.
Very similar results. The only drawback in Waterlogue is that you won't have control over the line drawing. But a similar effect is achieved with just one app.

An Overwhelming Answer

Today's Friday Find was an answer. Probably to a lot of my problems.
Linking up with Kim at Friday Finds.
Waterlogue App and Image Blender.
Overwhelmed -That's what happens when I look at the big picture. There's the problem! The BIG picture.
So the answer should be simple.
Look at the smaller pieces.
Ok. I can do that.
Instructions for Peace and Calm.  -Make a list.
Put it in the order it needs to be done with the date.
Check mark which ones are absolute 'have to's.
Focus only on the first 'have to' at the top of the list.

✔  1. Finish Kaytie's birthday present. December 3 (well I'm really late on that one.)
✔  2. One more stocking stuffer for Kaytie.  (but I have an idea and I have to get it before they run out.) December 24
✔  3. Three more stocking stuffers for me.  (why can't someone else stuff my stocking? I'm tired of acting surprised) December 24
 ✔  4. Baking for work.  December 17
✔  5. Finish the Christmas decorating or put the boxes away. Today or tomorrow
✔  6. Search out and buy the girls at work identical presents and wrap them. (I already found something but it was more than I wanted to spend. And of course they only have four so if I wait too long one might get sold.) December 20 or Today.
   7. Make Hallie and Kaytie matching aprons. Find fabric now, finished by December 24.
✔   8.. Make Kuchen. December 24. Or sooner so I can eat it.
   9. Christmas cards/letters. Now.
✔   10. Sew Hallie's stocking. December 24, sooner would be better. (At least it is already cut out)
   11. Make gingerbread trees. (I'm already half finished....)
   12. Make ornaments.

Now that I've studied my list, life seems manageable. I'm surprised that I have 4 'want to's that if they don't get done the world won't end.
I've crossed out #2 and picked 5 and 6 to try and get done this evening. And I think my husband will just have to fill my stocking this year.

Bah Humbug has been conquered!

IPhone Tutorial -Hot Air Balloon

How about a walk through on how I did this?
My original photo. I started in Snapseed with a crop. Then saved this to use later.

Then went on to apply Drama Bright 2,
added some grunge and adjusted to look like this. Saved it.

Took this into Mextures and applied textures and color to achieve this. (Viva LaGrunge Overlay 1/61, Painterly Overlay 1/44, Painterly Multiply 2/25, Blueberry Peach Overlay 1/50, Flare Multiply 3/41.) Saved.

Took it into Camera+, In Scenes>Bleach, then from the Effects>Analog add Diana at 80%. Saved.

This was then added as the bottom layer in Image Blender. The top layer is the original crop I saved. I set the top layer blend mode to multiply 75% but I masked out all but the balloon and some of the tree.
I hadn't used Camera+ in quite awhile. I forgot how much I liked it.
What are your go to apps these days?

Hubby's Dream

He had a dream this week.
I love it when his dreams give him revelation for my benefit. I should say it helps us both.
Let it be told in his words.
"We were in a car that hit a huge bump. We flew into the air and came nose down into a lake. I pulled you out of the car and when we reached the surface, I realized part of you was still down there. So I went back to get your other part and realized it was the adventure/explorer part. I had a hard time convincing you to come with me and said soon they would be coming to pull the car out. You said, 'But that would be an adventure!' I finally convinced you to come. Then I felt bad that I made you leave."
I was laughing histarically, but also realized this was a message to him (and me). All I said was, "Remember this the next time I need to present my case."
There is a part of me that loves and longs for adventure. The other part is fearful and plays it safe.
I took this photo downtown last Saturday night. I was across the street from a tatoo parlor and by myself. No one was in sight the whole 3 minutes I spent there. I grabbed a few shots with my phone and my Canon and got out of there as fast as I could because I could hear yelling about a block away. The added girl was from an art gallery shot just a few blocks from there. Could just as well be me. The explore word art is from Rhonna Designs app. This may be as close to art journalling as I get.
Apps used: Andiftouch, Snapseed, StrutType, Image Blender, iColorama, RhonnaDesigns.

Painterly Photos

I have quite the blast turning some of my iphone pics into painterly photos lately. The above, one of my favorites, was featured by Geri over at iArtchronicles last week. She has a group on Flickr called Painterly Mobile Art. Check out her blog and website here. You can find my Flickr gallery here.
I promised a tutorial and it is in the works.
In the mean time, here is another to wet your appetite.
Photoviva, definetly a painting app. A bit of a learning curve but if you can find an online tutorial that will help. I apparently watched one of an earlier version because the icons were quite different and hard to follow along.
Done with Distressedfx, Repix, iColorama, and Image Blender.
I intend to try out an app called Layrs but keep forgetting. Perhaps tonight.
I invested in a new stylus that has a brush at one end. Sensu....it is fabulous!

1 Photo 30 Apps Number 6

Today I'm breaking the rules and using 3 apps. Distressfx, iColorama, and Blender to achieve my finished result.
Distressedfx is one of my most favorite apps. I'm in love with texture and this has a multitude of possibilities.
Step 1: I chose Cole from the top row of textures. Absentia for the bottom. Upping the contrast a little and decreasing the saturation. Save to camera roll.
Then I imported my edited photo to add more. This time, Catalina and Edgy.

Step 2: I imported my original into iColorama. Chose Style>Edges>3

iColorama

Step 3: Image Blender. Bring the Distressedfx edit into the bottom layer and the black and white edit into the top layer. Set the blend mode to Colorburn.

Original
Have a great Sunday!
