Mobile Art Monday No. 54

This week's Mobile Art Monday brought to you on Wednesday.
Apps used: Procreate and iColorama.
This was supposed to be a simple test to see how my last tutorial would work on a building.
I got carried away and couldn't give it up. I had to try and make something of it.

In the first part of this edit, I followed the steps in the last tutorial here using these images in iColorama.

The only thing I did different was the blend mode was set to Color Burn when I imported the 'sketch'.

*I saved this to camera roll and eventually used it later in my workflow.

At this point I went on to play... (be sure to click Apply to save your changes.)
In Form>Mirror Preset 17. I saved this edit to camera roll to use later. (You never know what you might need.) Did NOT click Apply.

Still in Form>Mirror but with Preset 11. I applied this edit and moved on.

In this step I did 2 things.
A. Effects>Blend.  I imported my original cropped photo because I wanted more of the windows brought back. Masked out the other areas. Clicked Apply.
B. Effects >Blend. I imported the sketch again to give more definition to the roof. Blend mode was set to Multiply and masked out most of the lower area. Clicked Apply.

The sky was too blank so I imported the other 'mirror' photo that was saved previously. Effects>Blend>Multiply. Rotated it and masked out all but the corner. Clicked Apply.

I went back to Style>Tensor but used Preset 4. I imported the sketch photo and got this streaky effect.

One more photo import... Effects>Blend. This time I imported the first saved edit.*
I saved one version with a Color Blend Mode and another with Hard Light.

Switching gears, I started importing images into layers in Procreate.
I started with the last two, reducing the opacity on the Hard Light layer.
Next came the sketch image at Color Burn.
A new blank layer to add sketch lines of my own.
A previously edited image for texture in the sky area.
Tiny evergreen trees.
A large leafless tree.
And a paint layer for enhancements and dodging and burning.
All it seems to be missing is a few birds so I added them today.

Hope you're having some fun with mobile art no matter what day it is.

Mobile Art Monday No. 49

A Digital Mixed Media Piece
Today's purpose: Mostly to inspire with a tidbit of instruction here and there.
This piece was created using three photos(sunflower, bird and an oil can label for texture) and two vintage papers(the butterflies and text.)

My original photo was shot with the Hipstamatic app using two of my favorites, Tejas lens and Ina's 1982 film. (I cropped off the border.)

In Leonardo I layered the other images on top and began changing blend modes and masking away areas.
I inverted the text paper and set it to screen so the text would be white. I duplicated most of the layers and used two different blending modes to achieve desired results.

When happy, I saved to camera roll and opened it in Picfx.
Under the PFX Film Set I chose PFX10 and reduced the opacity. (Touch on the right side to pull up the opacity slider. You can also rotate the filters on the left.) Be sure to touch the 'layer+' icon to add additional layers.
Under the Scratches Set I added Scratches One at a very low opacity and Olden Texture also at a low opacity.

At this point I opened it in Procreate to outline the bird slightly and add a few sublte touches to the butterflies.

For an experiment I thought I'd run it through Brushstroke and saved three of the edits.

Another play with the three in Leonardo using different blend modes for a unique painterly effect.

I hope this inspires you to try some layering in your edits.

The Plans Begin

I am excited to announce that I was accepted to show my art in the 'Local Color Studio Tour' this year. I finally found the courage to apply. (Thanks in part to a year long art class I've been taking by Sebastian Michaels.) I finally feel focused again and this class has been just what I've needed. Unfortunately the others are taking a back seat for a bit.

I was accepted on my 'digital art' entries so I won't be able to show any of my normal photography. The 'studio' that I will be at is a private home and there will be 6 other artists there. One I know fairly well and a couple I've met before. The nerves are already getting stirred up but I have lots of time to get everything I need lined up and finished.
New business cards, postcards to send to friends as invites, display set ups...

I'm trying my hand at mounting my prints on wood panels and finishing them out with matt medium or possibly encaustic wax. It will be fun to experiment for sure. My first trial is nearly done and so far it's looking good.

This will probably be about 90% mobile art. I hope to have a small display showing the progression of a print so I don't have to try and explain it. A picture is worth thousand words right?

Mobile Art Monday No.26

It time for the peaches!

Since the past two years' crops were lost to late freezes, I was chopping at the bit to get back to the peach orchard.
They provide the cart and boxes. I went armed with baskets, tea towels, bottled water and 2 cameras.

I chose a nice loose cool linen shirt that proved to be great for gathering. (Silly me, I should have been using my baskets.)

I think these gals will be quite busy with all they collected.

(Hipstamatic, Dream Canvas film and Bettie XL lens.)

I had so many distractions that morning that I ended up out there at noon with the temps in the upper 80's and humidity to match.
Twenty nine pounds and $58 dollars later I had pretty much decided I would not come back again this year. But a different variety will be ready in two weeks and I may have to get just a few to see if I prefer the later crop.
I spent 3+ hours peeling and chopping, bagging and freezing. A peach and basil smoothie was the first to be consumed. Next priority is Peach Crisp or pie.
Have a great Mobile Art Monday!

Shadow iPhone edit

Here's a new twist on editing a shadow selfie. I started with PicFX but did most of my effects with Lenslight.
PicFX A mixture of: Black & White>Invert, add layer.

Urban>Police, Bokeh 2 Rotated once, then I added Space>Galactic for a little more purple in the sky.

All the other effects were added using Lenslight. I imported my photo and clicked on Effects.

I added the 4 stars, Effects>Lights>Sun Star 3 times and and Effects>Lights>Blue Spikes.

The effects are each on their own layer so you must must choose an empty layer before adding another.

I used Effects>Lights>Glow Aurora with edits of saturation, brightness, aspect and scale to add the blue red glow in the top left.

I again added Effects>Lights>Glow Aurora as a light leak. I used two fingers to rotate and reshape it. Then clicked on Edit in the Menu. Adjusting brightness, scale, aspect and flipped it vertically.

By this time my layers were full but I was still able to add a texture. I chose Metal 1 and saved my image.
I felt it needed a little more bokeh, so I imported my saved image and added Bokeh Overlay 2.
(And lastly I would clone out the white spot on my leg using TouchRetouch. I just noticed it.)

Mobile Edit Favorites of 2014 -1

It's App Happy Wednesday over at Keeping With The Times and I'm Barb's guest host today! So come over and check out what everyone's been doing with their mobile editing.
My goal for this month is to keep it simple but get some work done in the process. I like to sort through my mobile edits at the end of the year since they don't seem to get much attention after loading into Lightroom (such as key wording, flagging etc.) So this month will be scattered with some of my favorite edits of the year.
I have big plans for doing more tutorials next year and I'm excited about that.
Here are my top 5 from earlier this year. All are very different in style.
Fragment

DistressedFx, Snapseed

Picfx, iColorama, Decosketch, Snapseed

Mextures, Pixelinout, Image Blender

Pixelinout, Fragment, Rhonna Designs
Come check out App Happy Wednesday, the first Wednesday of each month.

Selfie Tutorial

I am a Hipstamatic lover but when it comes time to do a selfie it can be tricky. There is no reversing the camera on Hipstamatic, so if you are holding the phone and pointing toward you with out looking at the display your shot could come out like this.

What we need is a mirror! The rear view mirror in the car worked quite nicely for me. I had to position it just right to see the preview in the mirror.
You will be glad to know that the Volume up bottom does work to take your shot so you're not tapping around trying to hit the button.

This one of my favorite combinations. BettyXL and Dream Canvas. Because it is a 'light' combination it works great for hiding wrinkles and large noses and generally makes you look good! (The Amaro filter in Instagram does a nice job too.)

...as compared to this combo. (Tejas and Dream Canvas)
Note: The closer your phone is, the bigger your nose will look.

Here is another mirror shot. (Note the phone.) Original….

Edited in PicFX. ($1.99)
1.Choose Black & White Set. 2. BW Scratch. 3. Add a layer.

4. Choose Light Set. 5. Bokeh4 6. Touch the screen to reveal the opacity slider on the right and the rotate button on the left if you want to rotate that layer. 7. Save to camera roll or social media.

Today I'm also posting about "Selfies" for Day 13 of our Scrap With Apps Challenge over at E-ScapeandScrap. Come check it out!
