Mobile Art Monday No. 27

The Formulas App has an update with great features. You now have access to your custom formulas from Stackables to apply as a filter. You can adjust the opacity then stack on more from either Stackables or Formulas. This gives Formulas a whole lot more versatility. 

My latest sunflower...

On it's own, it was a little ho hum.

This was one time I didn't save my editing information, but I did play around before I settled on this edit. 

I was able, however, to recreate this one.

In Formulas, I imported my original image and chose the far left formulas icon. 

I picked my Yellow Daisy formula (from my Stackables custom formulas which magically show up at the bottom) and lowered the opacity to 70%.

I clicked the checkmark and chose the first option, "apply edits and start new session".

Press the arrow at the top to start adding more effects. By default the Formulas effects are available across the bottom.

I chose the last one, Reminisce, and lowered the opacity to 77%. Then saved to camera roll.

I added a 'sketch layer' to the top image for more definition. This was created in SketchGuru, Simple sketch no. 2.

It was layered over my Formulas image in Superimpose with the blend mode set to multiply 100% to achieve this...

The Plans Begin

I am excited to announce that I was accepted to show my art in the 'Local Color Studio Tour' this year. I finally found the courage to apply. (Thanks in part to a year long art class I've been taking by Sebastian Michaels.) I finally feel focused again and this class has been just what I've needed. Unfortunately the others are taking a back seat for a bit.

I was accepted on my 'digital art' entries so I won't be able to show any of my normal photography. The 'studio' that I will be at is a private home and there will be 6 other artists there. One I know fairly well and a couple I've met before. The nerves are already getting stirred up but I have lots of time to get everything I need lined up and finished.

New business cards, postcards to send to friends as invites, display set ups...

I'm trying my hand at mounting my prints on wood panels and finishing them out with matt medium or possibly encaustic wax. It will be fun to experiment for sure. My first trial is nearly done and so far it's looking good.

This will probably be about 90% mobile art. I hope to have a small display showing the progression of a print so I don't have to try and explain it. A picture is worth thousand words right?

Mobile Art Monday No. 23

Today's featured edit is with Formulas by Samer Azzam, the maker of Stackables.

While Stackables is still my favorite, Formulas provides some quick formulas to add to your photo. Most are quite desaturated if you like that look. 

For this particular edit I reduced the opacity on the first formula, Ethereal, then added another, Lilac Rose, also with reduced opacity. Some of these 'filters' mask out a lot of the edge real-estate of the photo. That is why it worked so well for this one in particular. The most recent update included being able to 'stack' edits with out having to save to camera roll and re-import. Yeah!

I've added a frame and reduced the width.

Then added another frame which gave me the finished edit above.

I didn't even have to mask out my red poppies from the original.
