A Winter Wonderland

Hubby had cabin fever bad by Sunday so I made him drive me around town to look at the frosted over trees and let me take photos. We actually had hoar frost on Sunday, something I'd never seen up close and personal. (I'll post them later.)
I love how these look with some of Kim's presets applied.

It was starting to just get warm enough that the frost started to fall.
iPhone shot edited with kk_today.

We ended up having a snowball fight and I think I lost.
This was a 'captured frame' from a movie clip. kk_toucha

I plan to put a video together since I'm in the Time Capsules Class. It's a lot of work. I could spend a couple full days just on one video.

Around Town, Fall 2013

Linking up with Kim for Friday Finds.
I had to find 'new' areas of town to get Fall photos this year. (Except for the usual 'bank' photos)
In both Spring and Fall I take the south road as I exit the bank drive thru to cruise the neighborhood. The Badford Pear trees are simply gorgeous. This year the colors ranged from yellow, orange, to red and sometimes purple.

But most of my usual areas were hard hit by an early freeze.
My friend Kathy, wanted to drive through her old neighborhood which she claimed was gorgeous in the fall. She didn't need to twist my arm!
We have very few Silver Maples here. It's the pale one with the white branches.
An incredibly gorgeous Chinese Pistache took my breath away. I haven't figured out why mine doesn't look like this one.

I wish I knew what this small orange bush was. I should have just taken a stroll down the path.
A few more spots around town.
The alley behind the bank. Yes I stopped way back at the stop light. (Shot from the car) Fortunately no one was coming behind me. I'll bet you money no one else in town took this photo! And why in the world is there a pedestrian crossing sign there?

My last stop of the day was to take my friend home. Her yard is lovely!

She loves to photograph humming birds and she has the perfect plants to attract them.

Even the Autumn Joy was photo worthy.
Yes, I'm still having a hard time giving up Fall. I think maybe one more post of my Instagram pics will suffice but who knows.
I hope you are staying bundled up with this northern that's about to blow through!

Friday Finds Oct 4

Another road trip to Amarillo this past Monday. This time early enough to find some awesome morning light. Good thing hubby was driving this time so I could snap away.
Hope you won't be too bored. Most people hate this 2 hour drive across the FLAT plains. But I think the theme of the month is 'seeing', so this is what I see.
All photos are SOOC (straight out of camera) except one. I was intrigued that I was able to capture some that looked good enough not to touch up at all. I didn't even crop them so don't be too critical. Shutter speed at 500 or 750 for the morning shots.

Rarely do I catch an interesting animal shot speeding down the highway.
I love prairie grass. Nearly as much as I love sunflowers. Especially when the light shines through it.
 A random flag.

Did a little adjusting on this one with the old truck.

Did I mention I love prairie grass? Especially the white gold this time of year. The only thing that could have made it better would be a stormy dark blue sky.
I was glad TXDOT hadn't mowed yet.
On the way home the evening light was good to me. I stayed in Amarillo far longer than was planned and I was glad.
I drove by myself, so I stopped whenever I felt like it. Even on the interstate.

As I passed by this I slammed on my brakes and looked around. No one was coming up the access road so I put it in reverse and backed on down the road so I was straight East of the 'pond'.
Sometimes I feel very brave. Even the mosquitoes didn't threaten me much although they could have carried me away.
I love to shoot:
Trees (mostly dead ones)
Grass
Clouds
Old structures
Old vehicles
The really best part was cruising the antique shops on Route 66 with my friend Barbara. We found some cool stuff!
Three link ups today.

UFOs

How about something pretty before I start on this?

Lightly edited in Lightroom. (lightened the shadows) Taken with iPhone5 HDR setting.
I decided to clean out the notes on my phone today. (I also need to clean out my email and my closet.) the only reason I even started to do this was because the microphone all of a sudden was greyed out so I couldn't speak my notes in. (If you haven't tried this it's soooo awesome, speak your texts and anything else that has keyboard access. hmmm I need to see if this works on Instagram)
I found notes from 2009.  I guess that's when I got my first iPhone. I found a To Do list for August 20, 2009 and guess what? It may as well be today's date.
TO DO
Phone case
Cream (let's just say this is hormone cream)
Bug spray. House. Yard
Fertilizer Sutherlands
Fertilize flowers
Prime and touch up paint at work
Guess I won't delete this, just add it to the most current To Do list.
Speaking of notes...
Early last year I had this bright idea. I went around to every room in the house and made a list of UFOs for each room on sticky notes and stuck them to the door frames. I was surprised that I had only 4-5 in each room. What is a UFO you ask? Why, an UnFinishedObject. I first learned about these in my quilting days. A project would get started and then end up in a box to be completed later, sometimes by the next generation. I acquired a lot of these over the years. I seldom sew these days but they are all labeled and stored in the closet.
(Snapseed edit)
Back to the sticky notes.
I could swear I took a photo of them because I planned on a blog post, but I've searched Lightroom to no avail. Also thought I had saved them, (I'm sure I did, but only found one still stuck to a large framed painting of poppies leaning behind a chair in the bedroom. The good news for the bedroom is that only one thing on the list gets carried over to this year. (the painting, but I've added painting the frame to the list.)
(Snapseed edit)
So I've redone my list of UFOs and mostly what's on the list is redoing wall decor and some new shutters or blinds.
I seem to have a hard time staying focused as the years go by. So I'll just add another class to my list to take in July. What is wrong with me?!?!?!?
Can I have the month off?
