Gratitude Day 10

I am grateful for my garden full of pumpkins this year. I planted 5 types from seeds I had saved from purchased pumpkins last year. Oddly enough 7 different ones showed up. One is very strange and I'll be saving seed from them for sure. Everyone should have a couple aqua pumpkins don't you think?

Fall is really getting going around here. I took a lot of shots today because freezing temps are on their way. Here are a few teasers from last week.

Gratitude Day 8

I'm thankful for my Mom. She passed on her many talents to me. Some days I wonder what we together might be creating if she were still here. We love to cook although you might say we actually love to eat. Dad was always taking photos of her in the kitchen, usually at the stove, I don't know why.... I have a feeling she didn't like to have her photo taken. A pretty common trait for women. She usually took most of the photos.
She sewed my clothes as a little girl until I took over, (needing to create my own sense of style). I don't think she made them because we couldn't afford store bought, although that was an issue. I believe she really loved putting fabrics together. I remember her helping my grandmother make her sister's wedding dress and my Barbie doll got one too from the white satin scraps. She had beautiful flower gardens, something passed down from her mom and her mom's mom. She'd probably be wondering why mine have so many weeds this year.

Gratitude Day 7 -Friday Finds

I am grateful for a sewing machine that works, eyes (or glasses) that can see to thread a needle, and a sewing/art room to make a big mess in.
I found this most awesome fabric to make pillows to go on my new gray leather love seat at the salon. It was a special order from JoAnn Fabrics which I had never done before, but they had the perfect stuff and it was on sale that week to boot.
Linking up with Kim for Friday Finds. Speaking of Kim... I won her give away this week. The Kinfolk  book. How sweet! I had been thinking of checking it out at Barnes and Noble. Now I can check it out in the comfort of my home. Thank you Kim!

I decided at the last minute to add the fringe. If I'd thought of it earlier I could have just left off that darn piping. But I like using more than one fabric.

Quite sassy I think. You know what? After a week of having a new love seat and a couple new chairs at the salon, I've come to realize people are just not observant. I asked everyone if they noticed and not one person did. Well, I'm really doing it for me not them. It's just nice for people to notice. After 11 years it's time for an update. By the time I finish with the window treatments and new photos on the walls some of them will. But like I say, it's for me, I'm the one that has to look at it all the time.

Gratitude Day 6

I am grateful for my parents. Today would have been their 59th anniversary. Oh gee, I'm feeling old now that I've counted.
I'm grateful to them for their love and support throughout our 'never a dull moment' childhood. They taught us to work hard, and then go play hard.
It wasn't all roses, they had some rough spells and who doesn't?
I made this page last year for a family book. I had even discovered photos of their wedding that I never knew existed. What a grand surprise. They had been in my grandmother's photos.
My mom passed away in 1983 and Dad and my stepmom Marilyn have been married nearly 26 years now. (I'll let her have own grateful post.)

Colors: I am grateful for color!
iPhone shot processed with PicFX. I did two images and masked the texture from the pumpkins and bottle in Image Blender.

Gratitude on Texture Tuesday Day 4

Today I am grateful for Kim Klassen who has been a constant source of inspiration and information, not just with photography and Photoshop and Lightroom, but in her personal journey as well. Here's to you Kim, and a future of awesomeness.
Linking up with Kim for Texture Tuesday.
Textured with 2 layers of kk_2110.
I was attempting to set up a photo shoot on part of my mantle when I discovered this. These spiders must be very small. I guess I'll be redecorating much sooner than planned.

Gratitude Day 3

I'm grateful the sun shows up faithfully and sometimes surprises us with this.
I also grateful to be able to jump in the car with jammies still on, drive to the end of my street and get a view.

Gratitude Day 2

I am grateful for friends that inspire me, like Carol Hart. Not only does her garden look fantastic, she takes awesome photos not just with her camera but her phone too. And she made her iPad cover into a piece of art. She did one layer of paint then used stamps and ink. On mine, I painted one layer then used more paint with homemade 'stamps' and a couple stencils. I also 'split' a turquoise napkin and used gel medium to adhere it and put another coat over the whole thing. I had 2 paint nicks before I got finished but after a week it is still looking good. Carol reminded after it was too late, "go easy on the acrylic (thin coats) because it turns to plastic and will peel off." I've done very little mixed media stuff but it sure is fun.
Thanks Carol!
