Allow me to introduce you to Sam. He grew up here at the Gulf Shores Fishing Pier. In a way he reminds me of the old guys who come here to fish and tell stories. I didn't know how close I could get without regretting it, but he at least was not scared. They even named the little restaurant half way out after him, Pelican Sam's Roost. The fishermen were featured here.
It was one of those times that I just liked all these versions.

I've discovered a new app I'll be posting about this week. Stay tuned.
Linking up with Kim for Texture Tuesday.
Roxi these are stunning the colours take my breath away. My favourite is the last one. Convenience stores over here tend to just sell sandwiches and hot pasties....
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be enjoying the photo shoot. Awesome shots….Boiled peanuts are a staple here in the south..
ReplyDeleteWonderful portraits of Sam! Love the blue ocean. I have never seen peanuts in a crock pot. In Ohio convenience stores we have hot dogs, pretzels and coffee, nothing out of the ordinary. But I will be keeping an eye out when I travel for anything interesting...
ReplyDeleteI've heard of boiled peanuts but have never seen or had any. I seldom go into convenience stores and can't remember anything unusual from local ones here...just the usual hot dogs, packaged sandwiches, donuts. I guess I don't pay much attention because none of it looks or sounds very appealing!
ReplyDeleteI love the pelican photos, especially the details of his eye, feet, and beak.
The very last photo of the pelican is my favorite, and boiled peanuts, YUM! You won't find those here in the Pacific Northwest.
ReplyDeleteI love pelicans and I love the 'study' you've done here. But you can keep the boiled peanuts. We tried them in SC and didn't like them; my son-in-law loves them {or so he says}.
ReplyDeleteSam is adorable! I love your collection of images of him - I especially love the textured Sam image!
ReplyDeleteRoxi you have really captured a beautiful series of this pelican! I love each one, especially the last one. I've never seen anything cooking in a crockpot at a convenience store, but I seldom go into those places. We ate at Coconut Willie's at Gulf Shores beach. Looks like you had a fantastic time!
ReplyDeleteYour nature photos of Sam the pelican are extraordinary. You captured his various expressions and movements - almost as though he were a person! I popped over to your post of the fisherman, too - and loved the blast of warm air and sunshine and the views of so many happy fisherman. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteThat is what mosaics are for: when you can't choose between pictures :-)
ReplyDeleteThey are all fascinating. Boiled peanuts? Doesn't that make peanut butter? Shows how much I know. I only recently learned that they grow below ground and aren't nuts at all.
I'm always fascinated by the pelicans when we visit Florida - such a beautiful and interesting bird - you captured his personality perfectly! so did you try some of the boiled peanuts - did you like them? not one of my favorites...and what do we have here at our convenience stores - espresso stands!
ReplyDeleteFabulous images of Sam the pelican !
ReplyDeleteSo this old guy just sat there and let you take his portrait? Nice! Did he tell fishing stories, too? He must be used to people taking his picture. Kudos to you for being so bold to catch him! -- Michele at Sweet Leaf
ReplyDeleteroxi these are such spectacular captures. such an interesting, yet elegant bird!
ReplyDeleteWow love the colours and textures of your pelicans :) and boiled peanuts, never seen that before, have you tried them?
ReplyDeleteAhhh Sam is a natural at this photography smile, love him and what great captures of him. I love boiled peanuts but that is interesting that you found them in the convenience stores. Kinda like pickled eggs in glass jars and pigs feet. Ugh Have a great day Roxi, I still need to get through all the tutorials you all put up and stop traveling so much. Thank you for all you do with info on your blogs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bird. I bet he has seen a lot of interesting things, including people like you wanting to take his photograph. Can't wait to hear about the new app.
ReplyDeleteSam is great. You have captured him beautifully.
ReplyDeleteGreat series! That pelican sure knows how to pose!
ReplyDeleteHow could you stop at just one photo of Sam?! You have captured the many facets of his charm and beauty. The Good Lord had fun, I'm sure, with some of his creatures.
