Texture Tuesday Pelican

Allow me to introduce you to Sam. He grew up here at the Gulf Shores Fishing Pier. In a way he reminds me of the old guys who come here to fish and tell stories. I didn't know how close I could get without regretting it, but he at least was not scared. They even named the little restaurant half way out after him, Pelican Sam's Roost. The fishermen were featured here.
It was one of those times that I just liked all these versions.

Funny thing, they were giving out boiled peanuts at the Roost. That is not something I'm familiar with but I did notice a crockpot of them at a convenience store in town. How interesting… When we travel up to North Dakota there is a place we stop that has two or three cockpots sitting with 'hot dish' in them. (casseroles) This makes me curious what other parts of the country have at their convenience stores.
I've discovered a new app I'll be posting about this week. Stay tuned.

Pier Fishing at Orange Beach

Our first place to explore while in Alabama was the longest pier on the Gulf Coast, the Alabama State Fishing Pier in Gulf Shores. It's only 5 years old and 1540 ft. long.

It was a blustery day as seen by these waves.

But that didn't stop the fishermen.

Mostly old guys, but not all. I found some to be interestingly dressed.

Quite a few fish were caught that day but I didn't see any very large ones.

We had the privilege of hanging out by one of the fisherman that liked to talk, so my hubby got a lot of information from him while I caught the action. There was a 4 foot shark in the water that day too but I only caught a brief glimpse of it.

I had on my long lens so it was easy to get some close ups.

Not that you want to see the bloody mess, but hey, that's fishing.

This is Sam, the resident pelican. He doesn't have to follow the rules. He will be the guest star on my next post.

This was a great place to hang out, the weather wasn't too chilly (of course I had on my long johns) and I was surprised there were as many people on the beach for a November day. I could have hung around all day and listened to the waves.

Roller Coaster

I could stare for hours, drinking it all in, enduring the high humidity and heat.
Kemah, Texas
The Boardwalk
The smell of fish mixed with cotton candy.
The excitement of exploring a new place.
Being adventurous enough to take a detour so we could cross a bridge spanning the bay.
The unexpected treat of it being a very cool suspension bridge.
Making for some cool iphone pics.
The never get tired of pelican watching.
Staring at the ocean.
Seagulls posing, hoping for handouts.
Bright colorful flowing trees.
Landry's most amazing crab/shrimp appetizer.
