Color

I've always been a huge fan of color. Any color! In my quilting days I would always get comments like, "I never would have thought to put those colors together." It's what set me apart as a quilter from a lot of others. That was 20 years ago. Now those color combinations are very much normal in today's world of fashion and decor.

But for some reason I've had a harder time with that use of color in my digital art. The difference? Fabric sits right there in front of you and you can rearrange to your hearts' content. Creating digitally on the computer reminds me a bit of painting. A blank canvas, maybe an idea, but essentially you are creating from nearly nothing. Sometimes I feel like that on my computer. And for me that is hard.
Latest digital art piece using several mobile apps and photoshop.

And for some reason the past couple years I have acquired an attraction to very neutral colors. They can be very striking but also boring in some cases.

The next goal to explore in my art will be to attempt to recapture beautiful and perhaps unusual color mixes.

When I go to the movies these days, I watch like a photographer would be looking through their lens. Sometimes it's better than the actual story.
I discovered this awesome video done by Rishi Kaneria on Vimeo, ROYGBIV: A Pixar Supercut. Now I'll be looking at 'color tones' a lot more while at the movies.
I tried to embed the video and google wouldn't let me for some strange reason. So here is the link, you will love it!

Officially Winter in Texas

Winter arrived in Lubbock Texas as we arrived home from a last minute Christmas trip to the Dakotas. It was a winter wonderland ready for the capture.

I noticed a few things I wouldn't have a year or two ago.

The poor pecan trees in the neighbor's yard with pecans still heavy and getting heavier with the ice. Hundreds of dollars worth of pecans, probably not worth 2 cents now. I would have shaken his trees and picked them up myself. It would have been a bumper crop. But I reaped the benefit of photos.

Our gas is probably the lowest in the country. I guess we saved around $200 this trip compared with last year's prices.

This shot was right by the gas price sign. If you noticed the previous photo, I can't imagine why a handicapped person would ever want to park there.

We had freezing rain today, then fluffy snow flakes, then more rain. I pulled out my 100 Macro lens for this. What I love about it, is the background.

We stopped at work to check on things last night and I was glad I had more than my iPhone with me. It was a challenge to hand hold this also. It's not the sharpest, but compared to the rest…. ISO 3200 18mm f/4 1/8 sec. I'm grateful for this shot because after all the ice today, half of the branches broke off. Very sad. It's a Desert Willow, too fragile for ice storms.

My favorite shot of all. Dove in Pecan Tree. Textured with kk_postale and a texture from 2 Lil Owls.

The skies were so white with low clouds that the geese flew low today and came in swarm after swarm. The near by golf course and lakes were just covered in geese.

Texture Tuesday July 1

Hard to believe June is gone and I'm just now working on shots I took of my granddaughter in May! Well no, actually it isn't hard to believe at all.
My favorite place to shoot in May is at the local Garden and Art Center. The poppies and larkspur are amazing.
This was the first time she actually 'posed' for me too. I'm not sure if I'm excited about that or not. I like candid best. Catching them in the moment… unaware.
She backed up into the flowers...
And gave me a big grin!
She then sat down and started playing with 'Baby'.
You can tell by her attire and the hairdo that this wasn't a planned shoot. I knew the poppies were at their peak and since I was picking her up at daycare that afternoon, I prayed her clothes would be clean because we had perfect cloud cover(rare). If there is anything around that resembles a purse, it goes on her arm or shoulders. I threw her doll and a couple props in my tote bag for our expedition.
I was so glad to grab this shot because I have one from last year of her heading down the same path.
Of course we had to have a flower in our hair and play in the dirt.
She likes to sit in my lap and we make videos with the camera turned toward us. I put this one together in iMovie.

I'm a preset lover! Here are a few of my favorite Lightroom Presets. From top left going clockwise: Cool Faded Peonies(mine), Redrex-White Putty, Cool Pale Red(mine), Matt B&W (Pretty Presets), Bad Ass Film, Noir Film- MakeLightReal.com. Now to figure out which to print.
